Where do I get my materials?

At Ingrid Creates Online Arts School I recommend certain brands and products to use in your courses, which are essentially the same products I use.  Of course you can use the materials you have at home, and you can purchase your materials online or from retailers close to your home.

There is an online store on this site for most materials, and all products are produced or distributed from various manufacturers and suppliers in Australia only.

Silk Ribbon Embroidery Materials

What types of ribbons can I use?

For any embroidery course, I use silk ribbon and some organza- however you can substitute synthetic ribbon also.  Satin ribbon is not the same as synthetic ribbon, it is thicker and does not perform in the same way as silk or synthetic ribbon (which are almost like silk).  All of my techniques in these video courses are completed with silk ribbons because I prefer the final result of silk.  We sell needle kits, ribbons, threads and fabrics.

At the Ingrid Creates Store, you can purchase ribbons for your course, as listed below, or substitute any ribbon colours or silk ribbon brands you may have at home.  The silk ribbons at the Ingrid Creates store are hand dyed and distributed from Australia and will take up to 4-5 weeks to deliver to an international address or within 1 week in Australia.

Of course you can purchase your materials from any supplier, my materials list as provided in your Course Essentials e-Book is a recommended guide for the ribbon width, brands and colours only.  For example, if you do not like blue pansies, and you prefer pink, then sew them in pink- just ensure you have the correct width of ribbon.

Can I buy a kit?

I do not make kits, mainly because I believe it is more cost effective even as a hobby embroiderer, to build a collection of basic ribbons which you will use across many projects- remember I started embroidery as a hobby too!  Personally I have a basic collection of colours I prefer to use, and it is not very big- even though I love all colours and would love to buy every colour I see, really, I would need 2 life times to use every colour I ever wanted!!

How much ribbon should I buy?

As a general guide, I recommend buying at least 3 metres of ribbon, especially for greens and pinks or colours you will use a lot of; it is more economical to do this.   If you have a large project, I would purchase 6 metres of that colour especially for hand dyed ribbons, this way the dye lot will be the same.

Remember, everyone embroiders a little differently, and sometimes you might use more ribbon than someone else, so I have recommended basic amounts of ribbon you will need per project.  Left over ribbons mean you can create another project with ease!

All of the ribbon packs on our Online store are 3m in length.

Porcelain Painting Materials

I only use porcelain from reputable manufacturers, or porcelain which is specifically created for painting on- NOT hotel chinaware, vitreous porcelain, ceramics, thrift store remnants or seconds quality porcelain.  If you are unsure of what type of porcelain to use, please visit our online store.

Of course you can purchase your materials from any supplier, my materials list as provided in your Course Essentials e-Book is a recommended guide for the porcelain object and size, brands of paints and colours only.

For all of my lustre work I only use synthetic taklon white nylon brushes which you can buy at our online store.

There are many onglaze colours and painting mediums available on the market, so I try to use common names for my colours, as brands may vary.

I cannot provide kiln firing services, but I do recommend kiln firing temperatures in your course book.
